I am also a musician and I made this music video for my song "Ugly Duckling".
My concept for this video was to have a dark, kind of steampunk industrial setting that would fit the mood of the song. I directed it, managed the lighting and the shooting, and edited it. For most of the song, the video is in square format, with the main character being in the center, and two characters in the background. The video then goes to 16:9 during the bridge, while the main character is taking her mask off, and the background characters disappear. Some of the lyrics also appear in the background, to show the emotional state of the character.
